3-D mammograms may pave a better way for breast exams

Scientists may use the same concept that was behind View-master to examine breast X-ray in 3-D.

This method can provide scientists a better way to examine breast tumor in women who have breasts too thick for current breast X-rays to give a clear view.

In this connection, Radiologists donning 3-D specs are not the only possible aid. A new kind of breast camera that may defy the results of those which are quite expensive is also being tested by the scientists in The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.

However, both these technologies are passing through experimental stage. But the need is quite great and that’s why the research is being observed so closely. Almost more than half women younger than 50 and a third of women above 50 have been found with thick breasts.

It is not only limited to a difficulty in examining tumors but women with thick breasts also have a higher risk of becoming the victim of breast cancer.

It can only be examined through breast X-ray whether your breasts are made up of thick or easy to check fatty tissue. Your Doctor can warn you that you have thick breast but it somewhat unable to offer you a good advice on how to have a better cancer check these days.

According to American Cancer Society screening specialist Robert Smith, “These days the imaging needs of women with considerable dense breast have become a major issue in the field these days.”

“I hope we can do better than what we are doing now” stated Dr. Mary S. Newell who is assistant breast-imaging chief at Emory University in Atlanta and testing this new 3-D method.

The Breast X-rays or Mammograms serve to track the thicker spots in normal breast tissue. Usual, mammograms help to decrease deaths from breast cancer by examining tumors when they are not quite bigger and easily curable.
