According to Doctors report, a gentle kind of mental decline that often leads to Alzheimer’s is quite higher than expected and more frequent in men than in women.

Based on a Mayo Clinic study of Minnesota residents, the researchers estimated that each year, almost one million Americans slide from normal memory into gentle impairment.

The problem is hovering over half million Americans who are going to develop full-blown Alzheimer’s or other kinds of dementia  and the problem will certainly rise as the boomers get older as the oldest boomer will be of 62 this year.

The lead author, Dr. Ronald Petersen of Mayo scientist says in this connection “a much larger burgeoning problem can be seen out there as people are the higher risk of developing dementia.”

A New York University psychiatrist, Dr. Ralph Nixon says bluntly in this connection that: “The problem has turned into a serious crisis”.

There is no available treatment to avoid alarming mental slide or to move it back   in the beginning.

But still there is a ray of hope as researcher reported on Monday that they had found some encouraging results with an experimental nose spray that can improve memory in some gently impaired cases.

The drug named as AL-108 requires further testing in a larger and longer study. Allon Therapeutics Inc. has developed that drug that is based on Vancouver B.C.

According to some doctors the new drug shows promising results for new kinds of medicines that hit those proteins tangles that cause nerve cells death instead of hitting those brain deposits that have been focused in many studies till now.

The studies will be presented at the International Conference on Alzheimer’s disease in Chicago.
