Anemia is considered a blood disorder that occurs due to significant shortage of healthy red blood cells. The red blood cells serve as transporters of oxygen to different tissues and organs of the body. If a deficiency of hemoglobin is found in the red blood cells, it indicates that the body is not getting sufficient iron.
Usually, Anemia is detected or confirmed through CBC or complete blood count and this often this sort of disorder is quite common. There are many kinds of anemia depending on the causes and it can also be classified through different ways depending on the morphology of RBCs. As it occurs due to the shortage of red blood cells and that’s the reason why doctors sometimes describe it as to have a low blood count.
Symptoms
These are some symptoms that are often observed in the patients with anemia but one must keep in mind that the given symptoms may be due to some other reason.
- To feel restless and loss of energy after a little physical activity.
- Because of the shortage of oxygen in the organs fatigue begins to occur.
- Unusual fast heart rate especially during exercise.
- Panting and headache while doing exercise.
- Not be able to concentrate on something properly
Types of Anemia:
- Macrocytic anemia: There are further division of this kind of anemia into “megaloblastic anemia’’ and non-megaloblastic macrocyctic anemia’’. The primary cause of this sort of anemia is collapse of DNA synthesis with kept RNA synthesis that occurs due to the division of the divisional cells.
- Microcytic anemia: This sort of anemia occurs due to hemoglobin synthesis shortage or collapse. Iron deficiency anemia is the commonest kind of anemia and it has many causes
- Normcytic anemia: This sort of anemia occurs when Hb levels decreases overall, however, the size of red blood cells is often normal.
- Heinz Body anemia: This is considered a cell abnormality that usually occurs in cells under anemia. It often occurs by taking some specific medications and sometimes is triggers in cats if they eat onions. Similarly, it can also occur in dogs by eating zinc or onion and in horses by taking Dry Red Maple leaves.
Causes:
Accurate blood loss, Anemia of chronic disease, Bone marrow failure and plastic anemia are included in the causes of anemia.
Treatment
A successful treatment of anemia depends on successful diagnosis of the cause that brings about the disease. There are several causes of anemia including blood loss, cancer, a nutritional deficiency, chronic illness, bone marrow infiltration, lower response to erythropoietin and inflammation. These causes can be determined with laboratory test results and physical examination.
