blood_pressureResearchers from the Boston University School of Medicine find that blood pressure drugs known as angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) has link with slower progression of Alzheimer’s disease and its lower occurrence.

The researchers analyzed government data that showed that there were 40 percent less chances to develop Alzheimer’s disease or any other kind of dementia in people who were taking ARBs.

It was also found by the researchers that there were 45 less chances to develop delirium and to die in those patients with Alzheimer’s who were taking ARBs. Similarly, the researchers also found that ARBs especially benefited those patients who suffered strokes before or after being diagnosed Alzheimer’s or dementia.

Anemia is considered a blood disorder that occurs due to significant shortage of healthy red blood cells. The red blood cells serve as transporters of oxygen to different tissues and organs of the body. If a deficiency of hemoglobin is found in the red blood cells, it indicates that the body is not getting sufficient iron.

Usually, Anemia is detected or confirmed through CBC or complete blood count and this often this sort of disorder is quite common. There are many kinds of anemia depending on the causes and it can also be classified through different ways depending on the morphology of RBCs. As it occurs due to the shortage of red blood cells and that’s the reason why doctors sometimes describe it as to have a low blood count.

Tooth decay or caries keeps on moving as the most widespread infectious disease all around the world. In this disease, the hard tissues of the tooth begin to loss because of the inflammation and necrosis of the underlying pulp. Only in the U.S., more than 20 million dental restorations are done every year that have a failure rate of more than 60%. And therefore, it is significantly required to develop some new therapeutics to recover the original form and function of the damaged dentin-pulp. If compared with other fields of recovery medicines, the progress in this connection is somewhat slow.

The researchers noted that almost 42 percent of boys and only 11 percent of girls met govt. suggested exercise levels among those more than 200 British school going kids that were followed from age 5 to age 8.

However, even among these children, no positive effect was found regarding weight control with the passage of time, as the report that has been published in the journal Archives of Disease in Childhood suggests.

But it is not to suggest that exercise is not beneficial for children.

Are Naltrexone Implants safe enough?

NaltrexoneNaltrexone

According to the two articles, published in the latest Medical Journal of Australia, an urgent analysis of the use of naltrexone for heroin and alcohol dependence is required as there are reports of harmful and unpleasant reactions.

Opioid dependence

Associate Professor Robert Ali, Director of the Drug Alcohol Services Council in Adelaide, and his co-authors stated that because of naltrexone‘s inexpensive, long-acting and usually well accepted effects it is considered a striking treatment for opioid dependence.

Oral naltrexone is used as a cure for heroin and alcohol dependence

Naltrexone implants

However, the success and safety of oral treatments is related to poor patient observance to taking regular doses. This has led to the expansion of long-acting naltrexone implants and storing injections.

Naltrexone implants have not been permitted for human use in Australia, but these implants are being supplied through some private clinics.

“Diagnosis Coding” is a known method for reporting why a particular medical service is required for a particular patient. It is a type of specific language. Accurate diagnosis coding report is very important for payers as it explains the reasons for providing particular service to the patient.

In order to promote the international comparability in the collection, processing, classification, and presentation of mortality statistics specific “International Classification of Diseases(ICD)” have been designed and published by the “World Health Organization(WHO)”.ICD provides specific format for reporting causes of death on the certificate of death. Medical conditions reported in the death certificate subsequently transformed in to medical codes with the help of classification structure of ICD along with the selection and modification rules included in the respective applicable revision of ICD.

ICD helps in selecting a single reason for death. This can be done with the help of reported sequence of conditions.ICD coding rules also help in improving the usefulness of mortality statistics. It is mainly because of a preference given to specific categories. This single identified cause of death is termed as the ‘underlying cause of death’. All other reasons reported constitute the ‘non-underlying causes of death’. Combined together they are known as ‘multiple causes of death’.

“Wherever sunlight is available “HEM-SOLAR monitors” will allow health practitioners and individuals to take blood pressure readings. The development of this series further illustrates Omron’s commitment to environmental stewardship” says Keiichiro Akahoshi, representative director and CEO of Omron Healthcare Co., Ltd.

To release worldwide in spring 2009, HEM-SOLAR series, Solar-powered digital blood pressure monitors has developed by the ‘Omron Healthcare Co Ltd’, a subsidiary of ‘Omron Corporation’ and a leading manufacturer of medical, home healthcare and wellness products.

Blood Pressure Monitor

Two blood pressures monitor for the series i.e. a manual upper-arm and automatic upper-arm model has developed by the ‘Omron Healthcare’. Through the solar panel at the back of the product, exposing to the sunlight charges both. The manual model can take more than 100 readings while the automatic model can take 28 readings just four hours after direct exposure to sunlight. Manual model requires approximately 15 hours and 24 hours for the automatic model to get fully charged. The manual model can take measurements more than 280 times and the automatic model takes more than 100 times, when both of them are charged fully. Regardless of the closeness to an electric supply source the monitors facilitate easy readings wherever sunlight is available.
