Bowel Pain After Drugs, Passing Stool Investigation

Written by Dr. Chris

SallyCG Asked :

I have been suffering with IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) for decades now and the symptoms became worse after I was put on medication for high blood pressure. While my doctor did not tell me the final diagnosis, I know I was on an ACE-inhibitor and the symptoms match intestinal angioedema.

It’s been over 3 months now since I changed my BP meds and the bowel pain has gone down but comes after passing stool – I do get some pain with straining but then I get these waves of pain that are in the lower abdomen and buttocks. It can last up to an hour, sometimes two. Eating food does not seem to trigger the pain.

Chest Pain, Tingling Throat and Lips and Shortness of Breath

Written by Dr. Chris

MollyU Asked :

I have recently been experiencing chest pain with a tingling sensation of the throat and lips and I am concerned that this may be the sign of a stroke or a heart attack. I suffer with high blood pressure and my doctor has me on a water tablet plus other medication for cholesterol. I know that this puts me at high risk and I have been to two doctors about this.

After doing all kinds of tests, they both said that this chest pain and tingling is due to anxiety. I have been using antidepressants for a while now but I have never had this until I was diagnosed with hypertension. Sometimes the tingling is also in the hands and feet but it’s not as much as the tingling of the lips and throat. The second doctor said I might have low calcium and magnesium levels so I started up on supplements but I think that they are just guessing now.

Arsenic Poisoning Symptoms and Signs of Toxicity, Exposure

Written by Dr. Chris

Arsenic poisoning may be accidental or intentional and depending on the source, method and degree of poisoning, the severity and range of signs and symptoms may vary. Arsenic is known for its toxicity but death due to arsenic poisoning is not immediate in most cases.

Usually arsenic poisoning, whether accidental or intentional, occurs over a long period of time. Small doses of arsenic in contaminated drinking water (accidental) or intentionally added to daily meals (food and drink) leads to chronic arsenic poisoning. The signs and symptoms of arsenic poisoning in these cases develop over a period of time and are often mistaken for other conditions – gastrointestinal, neurological or immune related.

When arsenic is consumed in large quantities (suicide or murder), the signs and symptoms are very acute and death within a short time is possible.

Chronic Sore Throat – Causes, Symptoms of Persistent Sore Throat

Written by Dr. Chris

A chronic sore throat (pharyngitis) is considered as any persistent throat irritation, itchiness or pain that lasts for more than 3 months. While a sore throat is usually thought of as pain, even slight irritation or itchiness of throat can cause a level of discomfort that may be described as ‘sore’ by a patient. Sometimes dysphagia may be mistaken for a sore throat although this is a difficulty with swallowing with no pain. At other times the pain or discomfort may be lower down the respiratory tract , like in the larynx, where it is described as a sore throat.

Causes and Symptoms

The causes of a chronic sore throat may be due to an infection, chemical or mechanical injuries or some other cause of persistent inflammation. Identifying the cause depends on the other signs and symptoms present, apart from the sore throat, as well as considering the patient’s medical history. At times, other diagnostic investigation may be required. This may include a neck x-ray, CT scan or laryngoscopy.

A chronic sore throat may be accompanied by other signs and symptoms :

  • Changes in the voice, especially hoarseness.
  • Painful swallowing (odynophagia).
  • Difficulty swallowing (dysphagia)
  • Chronic cough or constant clearing of the throat.

Is LSD Addictive? Acid Abuse & Addiction, Side Effects, Overdose

Written by Dr. Chris

LSD Addiction

Regular LSD users who stop using the drug do not show any withdrawal symptoms. Some of the psychiatric effects that may be present are probably a result of the long term effects of LSD rather than being withdrawal symptoms. However, LSD users may also be abusing other narcotics simultaneously and could be prone to withdrawal symptoms related to these drugs.

Generally LSD users do not exhibit compulsive behavior in order to acquire the drug on a constant basis.

While there is no physical addiction of LSD, psychological dependence may vary among users. A combination of social factors and pre-existing psychological conditions could make a drug user dependent on any substance, including LSD. However, the unpredictable nature of LSD means that the ‘trip’ may vary significantly and could create undesirable effects (bad LSD trip).  This may play a part in discouraging users from continuing with frequent use of the the drug.
