Thumb joint pain is a highly discomforting and distressing symptom. It leaves a person perplexed, when it comes to performing even trivial daily activities, like brushing, writing, and so on. Several unsaid human gestures utilize the thumb, in good proportion, to ask for a free ride (hitchhiking), express dissent (thumbs down) or give a simple reassurance (thumbs up) to someone. Thus, apart from its help in gripping objects, the thumb is an important part of our social life too. Hence, thumb pain or inability to use the thumb greatly loosens the grip on our daily routine.

Causes of Joint Pain During and After Pregnancy
Joint pain (arthralgia) during pregnancy and after childbirth is quite a common occurrence and is caused mainly due to the hormonal changes that come about during pregnancy. Even normal weight gain in pregnant women can put additional strain on the joints and cause varying amount of discomfort or even pain. A change in the center of gravity caused by the weight of the growing baby in the uterus, results in a change in the posture and gait of a pregnant woman which often contributes to joint pains.

Joint Pain (Arthralgia) in Single or Multiple Joints
What is Arthralgia?
Arthralgia is the term for pain in the joint(s). It should not be mistaken with arthritis which is inflammation of the joints. Arthritis also presents with the other signs of inflammation like swelling, redness and/or heat. Joint pain is almost always seen in arthritis since pain is another feature of inflammation. However, not every case of joint pain will be accompanied by joint inflammation and associated features like swelling, redness or heat may not be present.

Sore Elbow – Tendonitis and Arthritis
Sore elbow is an acutely inflamed elbow that is painful and stiff, caused by a variety of traumatic and degenerative diseases. Sore elbow due to injuries like fracture and dislocation have been discussed separately. Degenerative conditions, like elbow tendonitis and elbow arthritis, are also common causes of a sore elbow. Though, the pain in these conditions is not as severe as that due to elbow injuries. But it is non-specific and longstanding with no form of therapy being able to offer a complete relief. An important reason for continuance of symptoms despite several therapies is due to reliance on the easier route of drug therapy and ignorance of the cumbersome physical therapy.
