Severe Kidney, Flank Pain After Exercise, When Running

KrisZ71 Asked :
I recently started gym for health reasons. I don’t have any chronic problems but being 39 years old, I felt that I should be taking better care of myself. By the second week of gym, I started noticing severe kidney pain if I run for more than 5 minutes or so and after exercising. The pain lasts for the rest of the day (I only go to the gym in the evenings). It goes down quite a bit by the time I get to bed but sometimes its last the entire night and even continues when I wake up the next morning.

I am worried that this is a sign that my kidneys are under stress and not coping well with the exercise. I have not seen any major change in the amount of urine or the color. I keep drinking plenty of fluids before and after working out so that I don’t dehydrate. My father had high blood pressure and kidney failure and passed on from a major heart attack. My blood pressure is perfectly normal.

Calcium Kidney Stone Prevention – Vitamin B6, D Supplements

LisaN62 Asked :

I have been having repeated calcium kidney stones and even though I have tried many drugs, the stones keep coming back. If I am lucky, I will go like 3 months without stones. After reading up on the internet and speaking to the salespeople at a health store, I started up on some vitamin supplements.

This did not stop it and I went back to the clinic. I did not see my regular doctor but another doctor told me that I should stop all the supplements as they could cause stone formation. He did not offer much more advice and just gave me another prescription. I am confused because there is some conflicting advice out there about how to prevent kidney stones.

Bilateral Kidney Pain, Stones on Both Sides May Be Infection

SiobhON Asked :

I am a 44 year old male, slightly overweight with severe kidney pain. Recently I started getting the flu very often and my doctor did complete check and told me that its probably due to stress. He found out that I had mild hypertension and told me to quit the cigarettes and start exercising. I did just that without using any nicotine products or anything else and I started gym and have been going quit religiously. My doc also put me on a diuretic for the blood pressure. Everything was ok and on the follow up consultation about 6 weeks later, my blood pressure was almost normal.

About 2 weeks ago I started to notice a pain on the tip of the penis. It was slightly itchy but I did not go to the doctor. The pain and itching went away but after that that I started getting severe pain on the right side and went to see my doctor. He told me that it was a kidney stone and I should just drink more water and it will pass out. He did not give me any medication.

What is a Kidney Stone? Renal Calculus, Size and Types of Stones

A kidney stone, also known as a renal calculus (plural ~ calculi), are crystal aggregates that form within the kidney. A stone or stone(s) will pass down the ureter and enter the bladder. Due to its passage through the urinary system, kidney stones may also be called urinary stones or the term nephrolithiasis is used to refer to the presence of kidney stones.

The term ureterolithiasis refers to stones in the ureter(s) – usually stones form in the kidneys but grow further in the ureter, where they cause the most notable pain. Some stones may pass out with the urine while others will require medical intervention like surgery or ultrasound ‘shock waves’ or laser ‘blasting’.

Bowel Pain After Drugs, Passing Stool Investigation

SallyCG Asked :

I have been suffering with IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) for decades now and the symptoms became worse after I was put on medication for high blood pressure. While my doctor did not tell me the final diagnosis, I know I was on an ACE-inhibitor and the symptoms match intestinal angioedema.

It’s been over 3 months now since I changed my BP meds and the bowel pain has gone down but comes after passing stool – I do get some pain with straining but then I get these waves of pain that are in the lower abdomen and buttocks. It can last up to an hour, sometimes two. Eating food does not seem to trigger the pain.
