The government officials confirmed 756 illnesses due to salmonella-tainted tomatoes in different States on Thursday.
These are almost 200 more illnesses than the counted one by the health officials a week ago. This outbreak due to tainted-tomatoes has become the country’s largest-ever salmonella out break.
This increase in cases is mostly because of finishing backlogs of tests at state labs and it is not so that there a large number of new infections. The last known illness due to salmonella was reported in Florida on June 13.
It is still not known what is the source of that outbreak and it still remains a mystery even after several weeks. Many warehouses and farms in different parts of Florida and Mexico were investigated by the Food and Drug Administration investigation during the past week.
Consumers have been urged nationwide by the government to avoid red Roma, red round tomatoes and red plum if these tomatoes have not been recommended by FDA. For the updated list of FDA you can visit http://www.fda.gov.
According to CDC reports, no deaths have been reported because of the outbreak while almost 95 people have been admitted in the hospital because of the outbreak.
Salmonella is considered a bacterial infection that causes abdominal cramps, diarrhea, fever and it often occurs due to consuming such foods as become contaminated with animal stool.
