Use of Wireless communication devices are increasing exponentially. This growth is phenomenal particularly in past few years. Several researches concluded that increased exposure to the ‘Radiofrequencies (RF)’ emitted by these wireless communication devices cause potential health effects.
Almost all the present studies demonstrate effects on the healthy adults who comparably have lesser exposures to the RF fields. Experts are now realizing that findings of such studies are not relevant in case of children who have a higher exposure to the RF fields.”Potential health consequences from multiple, long –term, low intensity RF exposure need to be studied in detail in present context”, feel the researchers.
In case of children the ‘Specific Absorption Rates (SAR)’ is expected to be higher compared to the adults. It is mainly because of the closeness of the exposure wavelength the whole-body resonance frequency in case of children who are shorter in height compared to the adults.
The young generation of today is also expected to experience a longer period of exposure with the RF field generated by the mobile devices. Children normally start using these devices at an early age and this makes them more exposed than to the adults. Many studies conducted with this focus have revealed that there is an exponential growth in the mobile phone ownership among children. Researchers feel that there is an urgent need to conduct studies with human populations being affected by these devices causing present and future health problems.
Hand-held wireless communication devices are now using various types of antennas. In order to derive sufficient data for analysis it is also pertinent to study the amount of RF energy emission levels and its impacts on different parts of body. There has been a study making an attempt to understand the impacts of the RF energy irradiation from the mobile phone antennas on the human body.
In majority of the researches it was assumed that the user’s posture is common while using the mobile phone with antenna. It was understood that these mobile phones have pull-out linear rod antennas and are held against a person’s ear. But the new generation of mobile phones is normally using built-in antennas and there is a need for additional SAR data to study the impacts.
Laptop computers are now grabbing prominence among the users. Wireless technology also finds a center place in these computers and other devices including hand-held texting and Web-surfing devices. The antennas are close to other parts of the body when using these devices.
Experts feel that there is a need to perform prospective studies of “adults in a general population and a retrospective group with medium to high occupational exposures”. Human laboratory studies focusing on possible effects of RF electromagnetic fields on neural networks and the brain’s electrical activity would also beneficial. Experts also express a requirement of studies specifically on children and pregnant women in order to anticipate the probable dangers like childhood cancer and brain cancer.
Microscopic level studies evaluating the effects of RF would be of immense help in devising further precautions.”Characterizing radiated electromagnetic fields for typical multiple-element base station antennas and exposures to affected individuals” must be given an importance in the future studies, say the experts.

So ..
are there any effects to our bodies ?
I want to know
coz i feel when i’m using my laptop with wireless connection that there is something going on my hand and through my body .. !
