Ten students attending the University of Rajasthan in India have recently discovered that two commonly grown Indian herbs, Tulsi or Holy Basil and Pudina actually have cancer-fighting properties. The conclusions were made after a six-month research study was conducted on rats, arriving at unbelievable results according to the leader of the project.
The study involved dividing rats into two separate groups and applying a chemical paste to both. One of the groups of rats also received a mixture of the Indian herbs Pudina and Tulsi on a regular basis as well. After a month, the rats that did not receive the herb concoction had developed severe sores and wounds from the chemical paste, while it took nearly a year more for the rats with the herbal mixture to develop wounds and sores of the same severity.
The study was originally conducted in order to test the efficacy of these Indian herbs on skin cancer, but went on to experiment on the lungs and intestines of the rats. The study concluded that when rats were administered a regular dose of mint-tulsi mixture, they became naturally more resistant to many forms of cancer.
What makes the mint and tulsi mixture effective is the fact that it can destroy the free radicals that create cancer by altering the genetic makeup of the cells within your body. Destroying these free radicals prevents the cells from dividing more frequently than they should, which is the process that leads to cancer.
Every plant contains its own enzymes, but there are a large number of Indian herbs and plants specifically that contain sufficient amounts of enzymes that fight and prevent cancer, including Pudina or mint, Tulsi or holy basil, the thorny babul or Acacia Arabica, and Gokhru or Tribullus Terristris.
The Pudina and Tulsi cancer-fighting herb study has already been concluded, and now the research group has gone on to create a study that is allowing them to develop a herbal formula that uses mint, tulsi and babul in order to fight or prevent many forms of cancer.
Tulsi has been grown in many homes in India and serves a variety of purposes in addition to its apparent cancer-fighting enzymes. Tulsi, or holy basil, has been used for centuries in order to promote resilience against stress and immunity, to boost strength and stamina and to enhance clarity and calm. Tulsi has been proven to parallel many of the greatest benefits from a number of other herbs, including Ginseng, Garlic, Clove, Ginger, Turmeric, Echinacea, Golden Seal, Oregano and Thyme. Tulsi is especially popular in tea form, as the leaves and blossoms can be combined to create a calming, immunity-boosting supplement.
Pudina is the Hindu word for mint. Mint is actually a genus for around 25 different species, and more than one hundred different varieties. Many forms of mint have culinary purposes, and mint is often used in antiseptic mouth rinses, tooth pastes, gum, candies, desserts and many other purposes, and mint is ranked as the third most popular flavor for many foods and candies. Mint’s first medicinal use involved treating chest pains and stomach aches, as well as to whiten teeth and aid in digestion. Mint tea is also a strong diuretic. Mint is also commonly used as an antipruritic, especially when it comes to treating insect bites. With so many natural health benefits, there should be no surprise at Pudina or mint would be such a strong element in creating cancer-fighting herbal supplements.
There is clearly still a lot of work to be done when it comes to creating a cancer fighting herbal mixture, but the scientists behind this discovery seem to be well on their way to having things figured out.
