“When sorrows come, they come not single spies but in battalions!”
Now the mosquitoes after the floods, the outburst of irritating tiny creatures in the waterlogged Midwest is stalking the clean-up crews and anyone venturing outside the area.
Something satisfactory is that most of them are floodwater mosquitoes that usually don’t carry West Nile virus and other epidemics. But they are blood thirsty and often attack in groups with their stinging bite.
The eggs of these tiny creatures hatch in the soil after floods and if there is high temperature after heavy rains, it becomes an ideal condition for these bugs to mate. They are called nuisance mosquitoes by the scientists.
According to Driscoll who is a flood cleanup worker in Palo, Iowa,” The mosquitoes surround the area after 3 p.m. and badly affect the rescue activities and daily routine.”
Around 20 miles east of flood-stricken Cedar Rapids, in Iowa, biker Larry Crystal stated that it has become somewhat impossible to ride because of the mosquitoes.
“I don’t know where do they come from but whenever I stop to rest at the rest area, they find me and bite all over my neck area between jacket and helmet,” Larry stated on a biker’s blog.
“They seem very aggressive and full of anger and miss no opportunity to sting even if they find an iota of skin.” Larry further added.
According to Lyric Bartholomy who is an Iowa state University expert “In Iowa, there are nearly 20 times more mosquitoes than they were found in recent years.”
