JRMBRANDY,

Benadryl helps - this speaks for allergy.
It's possible that a certain substance from the new cream triggered allergic reaction and made you sensitive for small amount of the same substance present in your old lotion and in cortizone cream. I can't say which substance this is, but allergologist can maybe find out. Take all three products with you, so allergologist can get an idea what the culprit substance might be, and ask about "skin prick test" or "skin patch test".

Hi....
I have a question about itchy and reddened skin that had occurred suddenly.

I am a 40 yr. old woman w/very fair and semi-normal skin.

Due to the fact that my skin seemed to be so dry and rough all the time, I decided to try out a new moisture cream (Oil of Olay Complete).

Within a few days, I noticed that my skin started getting very red and itchy. After about the 3rd day of use, I had a rash that felt and looked like I had a sun burn.

My skin was bright red and somewhat bumpy w/little white dots on my chin and cheeks. Not to mention, I itched ALL over my face - mainly on the cheeks, nose, chin and forehead (above the eyebrows).

To say the least, I immediately stopped use! In which case, things stilled continued; however, slightly less traumatic (meaning the dots and bumps went away...) but, the redness and itching remained.

After going to my physician, he told me to take some Benadryl and cortizone. I've been using this stuff for almost two weeks and I notice that if I wash my face and use the cortizone and/or old face lotion, that my face still gets really red and itchy - even if I just use the cortizone.

Throughout the day, the redness slightly lessens, but the itchiness stays, unless I stay on the Benadryl..... which, I can't see myself staying on forever, ya know?

Also, I noticed that if I wash my face and don't put anything on afterward... like no cortizone and/or lotion, my face is waaayyyy less red and/or itchy as well! The only drawback to this is that my face is very dry then.

What could possibly be the problem and how do I get back to my regular skin care routine? I've always fought w/periodic acne breakouts and dry skin, but never to this extent and never this redness and itchiness!!!

Please help - Thank you!

To dero.

The purpose of E45 cream is to prevent evaporation of water fr9om the skin - so it's for people with dry skin and not for treating a specific disease..

If skin is burnt and painful, stop the cream immediately. Your daughter may be allergic to it.
