Jonathan,

rash on forearms, coming and going, sounds like folliculitis. Over the counter antibiotic ointments are available. Folliculitis is an infection of hair follicles, usually caused by staph bacteria and can be spread by skin to skin contact or via shared items, like sport equipment, tables, clothes, towels...

Folliculitis bumps don't always have centers. So, bumps behind ears can be folliculitis or something other, including head lice.

Hi. I have been getting these bumps on my forearm, where there is hair. They itch for a few days, usually last a week or two, and then go away. After a while they come back again, usually it's only one bump at a time, and I rarely have more than 3 at once. They are never above the elbow, and never past the knuckles. They are on both forearms. I have looked at pictures and it resembles folliculitis, but it never seems to go away!

Then more recently I have been getting really bad itching behind my ears. The area is red, and there are very small bumps here and there, of different sizes, but they are kind of hard to see, and they don't look anything like the ones on my arm, no center, just small raised bumps. Do you think they could be two different things?

What should I do?

I have this itchy rash down my neck and it has now gotten to the point where I am waking up itching my neck. Is this something serious or should I just take some benadryl?

Gabrielle,

if bumps have openings or the hair in the middle, they are probably infected hair follicles (<a href="http://www.healthhype.com/folliculitis-pictures.html" rel="nofollow">staph folliculitis</a>). The large bump (boil?) would be quite prominent (raised). They may are not have white pus-fill centers. Treatment is with OTC antibiotic ointments containing mupirocin. Staph bacteria often live on the skin, so autoinfection because of wearing tight pants and shorts is possible.

If the large bump is actually more like a raised patch and bumps have no openings, it could be allergic reaction to clothes...

If you were swimming recently in a public swimming pool, or using jacuzzi or hot tub, it can be <a href="http://www.healthhype.com/hot-tub-folliculitis.html" rel="nofollow">pseudomonas folliculitis</a>.

Hi!
Recently, Ive noticed an odd rash around my inner thighs, up on my hips, and around my genitals (not in).
They range from looking just like little red bumps here and there to bigger ones like maybe half an inch in diameter (biggest). They're just like a sore here and there, but its noticeable. They don't usually itch, when they do, its because I touched them or picked at them. They go away a little and come back, sometimes.
My mom thinks they may be from the tight pants and shorts I wear almost everyday, and certain detergents do cause flair ups. Sometimes, they almost go away completely. I'm not sexually active, and Ive looked at pictures of scabies, and they don't look like that.
Its almost summer (here) and you would be able to see them when I wore a bikini.
Help?

Qtpie10136,

it could be folliculitis - a staph (or MRSA) infection of a hair follicle. An OTC antibiotic ointment containing mupirocin is available in pharmacies. If this does not help, I recommend you to see an infectologist or dermatologist.

I've had this bump and rash for about 3 weeks now. It started out with a bump and a big red rash. The bump looked like a pimple and the rash was two quaters size on the back for my right knee. I put Cordazone on it everynight and that made most of the rach go away, but the area itches. It itchs badly, but if i itch is it hurts really bad for a while. I though it was going away but no. I've been putting neosporen on it with a bandaid. That seems to be helping. The redness has reduced and the resh is pretty much gone. But after i put the medicine on it, the area hurts and it feels kinda scally, like the skin drys out. I'm really confused and scared. I have had MRSA staph infection before that started through a pimple so i really want to know whats going on with my knee. Please help :)

Ashley,

I recommend you to have a skin test for allergy. Try to get a piece of that insulation and carry it with you to the doctor (allergologist).
