TThomp08,

Herpes virus, hemorrhoids and folliculitis (inflamed hair follicles, so on the skin, not mucosa; look like acne)...

but in moist environment, yeast infection is common. OTC antifungal ointmemt should help in this case.

Bob,

just in case you find a lump beneath that hair growth, you should consider reading about "pilonidal cyst".

It could and should be obvious, but my anal itch was caused by some hair growth that I hadn't previously experienced and didn't know to look for. A day or two after I shaved the long hairs away from the area, the itch was gone.

Jan,

I'm honestly not completely sure on the sweating. But no anal mucosa, bloating, or changes in my bowel habits. Just itching.

TThomp08,

does your itching/sweating problem correlates with an eventually hot weather at your place or indoor heating? Can you identify any crack on anal mucosa?

Any abdominal bloating, change in bowel habits?

I've had mild to somewhat severe anus itching for the past few months and have been to embarrassed to go have it checked out. It's the worst at night when I'm in bed. I haven't noticed any rashes or anything of that sort, just really itchy. I have a really hairy buttocks and thought that this was the cause but know I'm thinking otherwise. I also profusely sweat in the anus region too. I used to wear really tight underwear but now I'm switching to more loosely fit. I'm hoping that this isn't too serious so that I can avoid the doc. Any advice?

Ter37,

a lot of fibres, fruits and fresh vegetables may result in a lot of gas, so everyone should find a right balance regarding this. However, some investigators believe that prolonged contact of food with colonic mucosa due to constipation may contribute to development of colorectal cancer.

seriously...a healthy person should be having a bowl movement everyday, sometimes two times a day and they shoud appear rather large and be easy to eliminate. Drinking enough water, including bran and fiber in your diet, raw foods: fruits and vegetables that are uncooked will help prevent cancer of the colon. This can be life saving advice.

Megan,

anal itch, rash on inner thighs and sweating a lot...this may be fungal infection, informally called jock itch. Check here to find links to images and treatment:
http://www.healthhype.com/jock-itch-pictures-causes-and-treatment.html

So, if it is fungal infection, an antifungal ointment (without prescription) may help; if not, prescribed, oral antifungal medication would be needed.

If they are fungi, he should change underwear every day. He should try to keep the area dry (wearing airy underwear and trousers...)since fungi grow well on moist surfaces.

My boyfriend (21-years-old) suffers from an itchy anus quite severely. He believes that it stems from a particularly bad case of constipation he had several years ago that caused hemorrhoids from straining. He'd gone 10+ days without a bowel movement. He still doesn't have bowel movements every day, but usually every other day.

He gets rashes on the insides of his thighs. The rash on his thighs just looks kind of like red irritated skin.

There are no visible external hemorrhoids or internal ones that have extended out of the anal opening.

He doesn't find it necessary to change his underwear very often because he showers 4+ times a day. He says the showers help the itching...but he makes the showers really hot.

What I'd really like is for him to see a doctor, but he's very reluctant to let anyone else in on this problem he's suffering with.

I've tried having him use cortisone cream and homeopathic creams but he says they make it worse. He doesn't like the way they feel.

It's definitely not dry skin as he sweats quite a bit. There's also a smell in the area.

Do you have any suggestions of what the possible causes of this are so that I can give him a list, have him look them up, and then maybe he'll agree to go to a doctor?

Thanks.
