At last, a big clue of countrywide salmonella epidemic has been found by the Government inspectors. This time the same bacteria strain is being related to a single Mexican-grown jalapeno pepper and they warn consumers to avoid consuming fresh jalapenos.
But this discovery that is equivalent of a fingerprint still unable to solve the mystery as it is not known how and when the pepper became contaminated.
The authorities are also not claiming that the peppers are the real culprits instead of the tomatoes that were considered the prime suspect until last week.
The earlier precaution against hot peppers is being strengthened by the government and now it warns people not to consume fresh jalapenos or other products like fresh salsa that is made from them.
Contrarily, tomatoes are available in the market and are considered safe to consume now.
Agricola Zaragoza plant in Texas is no more offering fresh jalapenos and ordered back those that shipped after June 30.
According to FDA there is no other produce in the plant found positive for salmonella and they are checking where the produce appeared and where it goes.
McAllen is located near the Mexican border and this area is considered a big centre for Texas-grown as well as imported produce. it is still not known whether inspectors have visited other nearby vendors in that big warehouse that remains occupied with tractors and containers for unloading and loading different vegetables and fruits.
“We need to check it completely and as early as possible because many parts of the country are about to enter the prime hot pepper season.
The pepper industry is showing concern for economic hit and stressed FDA to immediately clear the hot peppers that are grown in some areas.
