Obsessive-compulsive disorder or OCD is considered an anxiety disorder that occurs due to obsessive thoughts which force a person to offer some tasks or action again and again.

An OCD patient resides on same thought and carries out some tasks repeatedly. Because of anxiety the patient reckons it necessary to execute some tasks repeatedly. Some signs and symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder are as follow.

As it’s quite obvious from its name, OCD is identified by compulsions and obsessions. Mostly, the patient realizes that the occurring thoughts are just a result of imagination they have no relation with reality and often the patient wants to keep himself/herself away from such thoughts. After sometimes these obsessive thoughts convert into compulsive thoughts that force a person to adopt repetitive behaviors. In order to avoid these ill imaginative scenes, the patient does some task again and again.

 

Repeated washing of hands and counting of numbers again and again are often seen in the OCD patients. Sometimes the patient is obsessed with digits and often feels that he/she is making mistake while counting. Some Patients often tend to specific types of numbers and show a likeness for them.

Fear of contamination or mysophobia is the commonest fear among OCD’s patients. In this kind of fear the patient fears of germs or contamination through saliva, sweat or tears. Often the excretions of the human body raise a fear in a patient with OCD and because of the fear of infection the symptoms of frequent washing of hands begin to appear.

An obsessive need of symmetry is also exhibited by the people with OCD sometimes. Signs of frequent list making and repeated alignment are also noticed in them. They don’t like to dispose things with the fear that they may need them in future. They also think a lot about their appearance.

Sometimes the signs of repulsive imaginations are also shown by the OCD patients. They often consider bad things occurring in their life and sometimes they have aggressive or improper sexual thoughts. They also have irreverent thoughts related to the God and holy personalities. Most of the time patient with OCD finds it quite difficult to overcome or ignore these unpleasant thoughts and these unpleasant thoughts may like thoughts of self -harming, thoughts of violence or harming someone. Often an urged to hurt others or themselves is also felt by the patients.

Sex related obsession is consisted of thoughts like rape or sexual intercourse with family members or strangers and often OCD patients give a lot of importance to their improper sexual thoughts.

These are some common signs and symptoms that are often noticed among people with OCD.
