Infections of the vertebral column are quite rare considering their tough structure. Direct infections are not known to occur, but transfer of infections from the chest or other adjoining structures is common. The presence of infection in the body increases the stress on the body and also weakens the defenses of the body. Thus, even a simple fever (first sign of infection), can lead to spread of infections to the vertebral column. Hence, we must not take any fever lightly, especially when it occurs regularly over a long time !

Middle Back Pain – Deformities
Middle back pain due to spinal deformities is a common occurrence among teenagers. The deformity originates since birth or during bony growth of the vertebrae. However, the symptoms are not obvious until completion of growth. If parents are watchful towards their child’s growth, it is possible to identify these abnormalities at an early age. Early diagnosis and institution of corrective measures prevents their progression. Apart from back pain, they also have some serious consequences, like paralysis or breathing disorders in future. Thus, with a growing child, one should always keep an eye for the signs of these diseases.

Middle Back Pain – Causes
Middle back pain is pain or discomfort in the lower part of the thoracic spinal region. Upper back pain is considered a part of neck spasm and the conditions causing it are commonly muscular abnormalities. Low back pain is seen in middle and elderly individuals due to increased stress on the weight-bearing part of the back. The causes of middle back pain are mostly related to structural abnormalities that arise during growth and development of the vertebrae. The middle back is frequently targeted by infections, deformities, and tumors, and so on. These diseases occur slowly over a period of several months to years and intriguingly the same is true regarding their treatment.

Kidney Pain Location and Symptoms
What is Kidney Pain?
Kidney pain is a term often used to describe a lower back pain that is more lateral (towards the side) or around the flanks. However the kidneys, despite popular belief, are not located in the lower parts of the abdomen. The kidneys lies just below the diaphragm on either side towards the back of the abdomen in an area known as the retroperitoneal cavity. Back pain is by far the most common cause of what is termed kidney pain.
Often pain of the flanks after trauma (like a punch – “kidney punch”) or after physical exertion (like running) is mistaken for kidney pain but usually the pain is muscular in origin in both these circumstances. Pain due to other organs lying around the kidney may also be mistaken for kidney pain. In females, menstrual pain, discomfort during ovulation and pain of the fallopian tubes and/or ovaries due to a number of gynecological conditions may also be mistaken for kidney pain.
