Introduction of the infection (Salmonella)

This infection is actually a stomach disorder, somewhat like Diarrhea, the symptoms of which are fever and severe abdominal cramps. This fever lasts for four to seven days and the patient gets auto recovery even if no treatment is undertaken/applied. The characteristic feature of this fever is that it shows its symptoms twelve to seventy two hours after infection. An acute dehydration is typically associated with this disorder and this is the only point which needs utmost attention and requires serious preventive measures on the part of the patient. Unavailability of any vaccine against Salmonella also aggravates the situation and the only weapon left against this stomach disorder is to remain particular about the precautionary measures to be taken against this infection. Some of these prime most important preventive steps are as follows.

Proper cooking

Some people don’t cook food fully well before they eat. Others have the habit or taste of eating raw food. Both of these cases enhance or encourage Salmonella, for half-cooked or raw food carries the germs responsible for causing stomach disorders. Half-cooked, poorly cooked and under-cooked dishes are injurious to human digestive system. Our digestive enzymes work properly on the food substances which are fully cooked. Otherwise enzyme action on the substrate never brings the desired results. So all the food items must be properly cooked before being eaten. Eggs, fish, mutton, beef and chicken must be cooked thoroughly in order to make them hygienic for our stomach.

Avoid hotelling

Home made cookies are the best because eating outside in some restaurants or hotels always proves disastrous for health in the long run. The crockery, spices, quality and freshness of food, neat and clean environment and pasteurized cooking are some of the chief most important areas in which hotels lack. Unawareness of half-cooked or poorly cooked food at hotels causes a number of health hazards to the hotel goers.

Proper washing

Proper washing is very much important if one likes to be fit and stout, spick and span and hale and hearty. Washing never includes the washing of food substances alone but it involves washing each and every cooking and serving utensil along with the washing of hands and mouths of the diners. Neat and clean teeth, strong gums and refreshing Buccal Cavity add flavor to the taste of the food one is eating. Hands must never be dried after washing before eating food, and brushing one’s teeth after every meal keeps one healthy throughout one’s life. Germs responsible for Salmonella always gets virulent in unhealthy and insanitary conditions. So proper washing of everything helps a lot in combating the infection.

Be careful about infants, elders & patients

Special care must be taken while preparing food for infants, children, elderly people and patients either suffering from Salmonella or some other diseases. This is because children, old people and patients are more sensitive and are more likely to be attacked by the germs of Salmonella. They must also be saved and kept away from the scorching and sweltering heat of the blazing sun and special care must be taken about the water content of their bodies. Salt and mineral solutions should be served to them at regular short intervals of time keeping in mind that the deficiency of water, salts and minerals in the body always proves fatal to these sensitive beings. Moreover, no Salmonella patient should ever dare to prepare meal for others especially for children, old people and patients. Besides, one should never deal with poultry products, meat, beef or fish and the infants simultaneously.

This is because these fleshes always carry germs of Salmonella abundantly and the chances of the children getting affected become very bright if both are dealt simultaneously. So try your best to avoid all this.

Avoid contacts with reptiles, etc.

Salmonella patients, in particular, should try their level best to avoid any type of contact with reptiles, birds, etc. because they carry salmonella gems profusely. Even pet animals and birds should be kept neat and clean to prevent the spread of germs. Feces of such creatures are contaminated with such germs. If one has to deal with them at all, one must wash one’s hands carefully before touching any eatable.

Breast feeding

Breast feeding is one of the best preventions against such infection. Infants feeding on mother’s breast have been found less subjective to such germs as compared to those who take other junk food. Salts, minerals and vitamins along with a number of useful harmones and enzymes are present in excess in mother’s milk. These make the milk best suitable for the infant and he/she remains well protected against the germs. So breast feeding is the best feed of all.
