Diabetes is a term for glucose intolerance where the body cannot adequately manage the blood glucose levels. This is usually caused by insulin resistance (intolerance), reduced levels of insulin or the absence of insulin. Insulin is the hormone secreted by the pancreas that helps regulate blood glucose levels. When insulin is secreted, the body cells increase the uptake of glucose from the blood and excess glucose is converted into glycogen and stored in the liver and muscle cells. Any glucose above and beyond may be converted into fat and stored in fat cells.

Blood Sugar Diabetes & Impaired Glucose Tolerance Levels
Diabetes mellitus (type 2 diabetes), also known commonly as sugar diabetes, is the inability of the body to maintain the blood sugar levels within a normal range. Prior to the onset of sugar diabetes, a state known as impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) or pre-diabetes, exists whereby the fluctuating blood glucose levels may not reach extreme levels as in diabetes mellitus. In pre-diabetes, the body’s mechanisms for maintaining normal blood glucose levels is still functioning, although impaired.

Type 2 Diabetes- Know About This Sweet Disease
“Type-2 Diabetes” is primarily responsible for a combination of abnormalities. Type-2 diabetes is a typical body condition in which the body cells are less reactive to the insulin produced by the body. Because of the body is less reactive to the insulin, it is necessary for the body to produce more insulin to maintain the normal metabolism.
Type-2 diabetes normally is not the sole result of the insulin resistance itself. To balance the resistance the pancreas will produce more insulin. The blood sugar levels will be at normal level in most of the people with insulin resistance. In some people, the pancreas fails to compensate the increasing need of insulin. In such cases the blood sugar level increases and this deficiency in the supply of insulin causes ‘type-2 diabetes’.
Type 2 Diabetes can best be understood as a problem arisen because of a considerable gap that is created in body in terms of deficient supply against the demand of insulin. The pancreas cannot cope up with increasing demand of insulin with insulin resistance as it produces too little insulin. The puzzle to be solved is the contribution of overweight for insulin resistance. According to studies fat cells are not just storage sites, it also produce fatty acids and the secretion of proteins such as leptin, resistin and adiponectin which obstructs the secretion and action of insulin in the body.

Intranasal Insulin Shows Better Memory Improvement among Women
‘Intranasal Insulin’ is one of the devices to inject insulin developed to make the insulin intake to be less painful than the other methods. They are diagnosed to control the problem of obesity which is one of the resultant factors of diabetes. They decrease the food intake however a new study has shown that this is more likely to happen among men than women who don’t show that desirable levels of obesity control with insulin administered intranasal. The compound seems to be giving more desirable effect on enhancing the memory function among women.
This new study has been reported in the “Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism (JCEM)”.
Gender plays an important role in determining the changes brought by brain insulin which brings alterations in food intake and other cognitive functions of the body. This is emphasized in the new study which shows that Intranasal Insulin brings higher decrease in the levels of plasma glucose concentrations in body. However obesity seems to be better controlled among men due to control on food intake. It also brings desirable improvements in the memory among the patients suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. However in this case too, the gender differences are evident. Intranasal Insulin shows better memory improvement among the women.

Elderly Diabetic Patients are Susceptible to Anti Diabetic Rosiglitazone Increasing Risks of Cardiovascular Problems
An observational study conducted on the elderly diabetes patients provided sufficient evidence that treatment with the ‘anti diabetic rosiglitazone’ is associated with an increased risk for ‘ischemic cardiovascular events’ as well as heart failure and death.
The research study was conducted at ‘Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences, Toronto, Ontario, Canada’, by Lorraine Lipscombe and colleagues. Results of this study were published in the “Journal of the American Medical Association”. This new study has now boiled up the ongoing heated debate over safety and labeling of ‘thiazolidinediones’.
Lorraine Lipscombe and colleagues studied the outcomes of almost 160,000 diabetes patients with more than 66 years and over age group who were treated with at least one ‘oral hypoglycemic agent’ between a period of 2002 and 2005, using health care databases for Ontario.
