Researchers from the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Medicine find an antioxidant resveratrol in red wine and many plants that may help to protect against radiation exposure.
The researchers gave acetyl-altered resveratrol to mice before exposing them to radiation and they found that there was no damage from radiation in the rodents’ cells. However, further studies are being conducted to find whether acetylated-resveratrol also proves helpful to protect human against radiation or not.
These findings will be presented at the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology annual meeting, in Boston.
