FDA reported that almost 23 people in 14 different states were identified with salmonella related food poisoning.The contamination, which caused food poisoning, was found in Malt-O-Meal’s breakfast cereal and the company ordered back voluntarily after a usual lab test on March 24 when they found salmonella bacterium in these cereals.
These breakfast cereals were distributed under several brands like Food Club, Acme, Giant, America’s Choice and Jewell besides Malt-O-Meal’s trademark.The mentioned manufacturing and expiry dates on these cereals were from April 08 to March 09.
The cases of food poisoning were found in different states including Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Minnesota, North Dakota, Delaware, Maine and Colorado.There are reports of such cases from other states too but it has been not confirmed yet these cases are also related to the cereal.
Salmonella bacterium is usually found in humans and animals’ bowels and it remains active even after passing through stool.In humans this infection occurs due to contaminated food that is not cooked properly.
