World leaders and philanthropists announced to give nearly $3bn to fight malaria. The meeting at the UN also looked at ways to meet the Millennium Development Goals that aimed to reduce poverty worldwide by 2015.
Donors are quite hopeful that the funds will be sufficient to wipe out malaria by that time.
The funds include $ 1.6bn from the Global Fund to fight Malaria, Tuberculosis and aids while the World Bank will provide $1.1bn.
The rest of the funding has been promised by the British government and private organization like Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
