After the deaths’ reports from contaminated milk, the scandal of tainted dairy products has spread like a wild fire in China as well as in other countries of the world.
In their inspection, the inspectors noticed that around 10% milk taken from three companies was contaminated with melamine. The milk powder killed four babies and sickened around 6,000 others in three provinces of China.
The manufacturers of this milk powder added a banned chemical melamine (use in making plastic) that makes milk appear higher in protein.
The inspectors from the General Administration Quality Supervision tested this milk from three different companies. A post on General Administration Quality Supervision says that almost 10% of the milk from Yili Industrial Group and Mengniu Dairy Group had 8.4 mg of melamine per kg. Similarly, they also found contaminated products from Shanghai-based Bright Dairy.
According to the watchdog, “We are trying to find out the reason for adding the melamine and will surely punish those who have done this.”
It further says that the batches with positive testing have been recalled.
However, in an attempt to rebuild public trust in dairy products, they urged that most of these products are safe to use.
After inspection reports many people in China are of the view that if such big companies have problems, they really don’t know who to trust. The scandal has considerably widened in China as well as in other part of the world as these products have been exported in some other countries.
