The report from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies shows higher HIV/AIDS infection rates among sex workers, gays and intravenous drug users all around the world.
According to the report that issued on Thursday, most of the time these people are considered outcasts and declined treatment. The report also stressed on authorities and humanitarian agencies to pay more attention to AIDS than any other armed conflict or natural disaster.
“For marginalized groups like prostitutes, gays, and intravenous drug users, HIV has become a long-term and complex disaster on several levels with its higher rates.” the humanitarian agency stated.
“These people that mostly live in the outer reaches of society often have to face disgrace, criminalization and diminution if they get any access to prevention and treatment services.” the report adds.
“An annual World Disaster Report” is a 248-page study that didn’t give new figurers for AIDS victims but mentioned about United Nations figures that showed 2.1 million deaths from AIDS during the last year.
The report said that in southern Africa, the HIV virus was at the root of continuing social disaster.
In a news conference the federation’s officials told that the new wave of violence in Zimbabwe could upset medical care and the situation would become even worse in the country where AIDS is a serious threat.
Whatever we have achieved we must not put it into reverse” Mukesh Kapila, a Federation specialist told.
AIDS has become a worldwide threat and it can become more devastating than any other possible danger to the coming generations. It is as serious a problem as global warming or some other natural disasters.
