There are many people who seem to believe that drug addiction is different from alcoholism, but as a matter of fact, the definition of addiction and alcoholism is somewhat same. The only well-known difference is that one is taken in liquid, while the other is taken on several ways. However, the overall effects of alcoholism and addiction are the same.
The medical profession seems to consider alcoholism and drug addiction the same diseases, but so far the treatment for both these diseases is concerned, there is little difference. No doubt, different medications are used in alcohol treatment program and in a drug rehab addiction treatment centre, but the philosophy behind the treatment of both these addictions is the same.
However, the most significant difference in both these treatments is found in the alcoholic’s or addict’s perception of the other. More often, the alcoholic considers addict a criminal and say that they can’t associate to their lifestyle. On the other hand, the addicts take alcoholic as their worst nightmare. The sad fact is that the thinking and behavior that that joins their journey via alcoholism or addiction is almost the same. Denial, dishonesty, shame, compulsive behavior, resentment and failed relationship often become the destiny of the people recovering from alcoholism or addiction.
